About the book:

Jack Nolan is a gentleman, a journalist, and unlucky in love. His viral success has pigeon-holed him as the how-to guy for a buzzy, internet media company instead of covering hard-hitting politics. Fed up with his fluffy articles and the app-based dating scene as well, he strikes a deal with his boss to write a final piece de resistance: How to Lose a Girl. Easier said than done when the girl he meets is Hannah Mayfield, and he’s not sure he wants her to dump him.

Hannah is an extremely successful event planner who’s focused on climbing the career ladder. Her firm is one of the most prestigious in the city, and she’s determined to secure her next promotion. But Hannah has a bit of an image problem. She needs to show her boss that she has range, including planning dreaded, romantic weddings. Enter Jack. He’s the perfect man to date for a couple weeks to prove to her boss that she’s not scared of feelings.

Before Jack and Hannah know it, their fake relationship starts to feel all too real—and neither of them can stand to lose each other.

What I Loved/Thought: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Not the Girl You Marry was a quick, witty, steamy, and sweet rom-com! I typically go for fast and in your face when it comes to Romance, but I enjoyed the slower pace of this one.

There were so many things about this one that I loved, including the main character featured as a woman of color, the fake relationship trope, and the twist on How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days, which is still one of my faves!

Description

Product description

“Abbi Waxman is both irreverent and thoughtful.”—#1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Giffin

The author of Other People’s Houses and The Garden of Small Beginnings delivers a quirky and charming novel chronicling the life of confirmed introvert Nina Hill as she does her best to fly under everyone’s radar.

Meet Nina Hill: A young woman supremely confident in her own…shell.

The only child of a single mother, Nina has her life just as she wants it: a job in a bookstore, a kick-butt trivia team, a world-class planner and a cat named Phil. If she sometimes suspects there might be more to life than reading, she just shrugs and picks up a new book.

When the father Nina never knew existed suddenly dies, leaving behind innumerable sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews, Nina is horrified. They all live close by! They’re all—or mostly all—excited to meet her! She’ll have to Speak. To. Strangers. It’s a disaster! And as if that wasn’t enough, Tom, her trivia nemesis, has turned out to be cute, funny, and deeply interested in getting to know her. Doesn’t he realize what a terrible idea that is?

Nina considers her options.
1. Completely change her name and appearance. (Too drastic, plus she likes her hair.)
2. Flee to a deserted island. (Hard pass, see: coffee).
3. Hide in a corner of her apartment and rock back and forth. (Already doing it.)

It’s time for Nina to come out of her comfortable shell, but she isn’t convinced real life could ever live up to fiction. It’s going to take a brand-new family, a persistent suitor, and the combined effects of ice cream and trivia to make her turn her own fresh page.

What I Loved/Thought:

I’m over here living my best life with my best book friends and absolutely loved The Bookish Life Of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman!

Nina basically has my dream job, working in a bookstore, and picking up a new book every chance she gets. She would much rather be in solitude with her cat named Phil, or playing trivia with her team, than the thought of having to deal with strange people. This book has it all, and it’s already made me laugh out loud because I find so much of myself in Nina.

Things really take a turn for her when her father shows up that she never knew existed, and then her trivia nemesis turns out to be cute, funny, and deeply interested in getting to know her. Just what Nina wasn’t looking for! I loved this adorable book so much and it’s such a cute summer read!
